On behalf of Governor C. L. Butch Otter and First Lady Lori Otter, the Commissioners of the state arts commission are inviting nominations for the 2010 Governor’s Awards in the Arts. The ceremony will be held at the Egyptian Theatre, with a reception at the Boise Art Museum, on Thursday, September 23. The awards, given every two years, recognize and encourage excellence in the arts in Idaho and stimulate and support awareness of the arts throughout the state.

Award categories include excellence in the arts, excellence in the folk & traditional arts, support of the arts, support of arts education, and excellence in arts administration. Nominees must be Idaho residents, businesses based in Idaho, and organizations or communities that have, through creative accomplishments or distinguished service, made a significant contribution to the cultural life of the state. Nomination forms are available from the Idaho Commission on the Arts at 2410 N. Old Penitentiary Rd. in Boise, or from P.O. Box 83720-0008, or download the brochure and the form from the top of this page. Further information is available by calling 208/334-2119 or 800/278-3863 or E-mail info@arts.idaho.gov. The Award, consisting of a silver medallion, is one-in-a-lifetime. A list of former recipients is available here. Nominations must be postmarked by March 19.

Commissioners will review the nominations and make their recommendations to the Governor for his independent decision.

The Idaho Commission on the Arts is a state agency consisting of 13 volunteer commissioners from all regions of the state appointed by the governor to four-year terms. The Commission, which offers grants, fellowships, and services to artists, schools, and arts organizations, is dedicated to making the arts available to all Idahoans.
