![]() GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES 2010 AWARDS IN THE ARTS ![]() The biennial awards were established in 1970 by the Idaho Commission on the Arts to elevate recognition and awareness of Idaho arts and artists. Idaho was among the first in the nation to establish such a program. Commissioners forwarded their selections to the Governor for his independent decision. Commission executive director Michael Faison said, “We are gratified by this effort on behalf of the Governor and First Lady to foster and honor Idaho’s extraordinary creativity, as well as its cultural heritage.” The silver medallions were presented by Governor Butch Otter and First Lady Lori Otter at a ceremony on September 23, 2010 at the Egyptian Theatre in Boise. Recipients were: Excellence in the Arts David Giese, Moscow, visual artist Alma Gomez, Boise, painter George Halsell, Twin Falls, musician Excellence in Folk and Traditional Arts Cary Schwarz, Salmon, saddlemaker Randy Priest, Donnelly, western hatter Dwight Towell, Midvale, custom knifemaker Support of The Arts Lisa Myers, Nampa, Flying M Coffee Ruth Pratt, Coeur d’Alene Public Library Fdn. Support of Arts Education Lynn “Doc” Skinner, Moscow, Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival Richard E. Bird, Rexburg, art professor Excellence in Arts Administration Christine Hatch, Idaho Falls, Art Museum of Eastern Idaho Tom Tompkins, Boise, Esther Simplot Academy of Performing Arts Special Commendations Arthur Hart,Boise, historian Henry T. Hopkins, Idaho Falls, museum director and painter (deceased) Lifetime Achievement Senator Jim & Louise McClure, Boise, public and private support of the arts |
