Artform: Mexican Folk Dance
Residence: Southwestern Idaho
Bio: Norma was born and raised in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. She relocated to Idaho in 1996, bringing with her a true passion for the study and dissemination of her cultural traditions. Her experience with dance, in excess of 20 years, encompasses traditional Mexican folk dance. Her desire is to participate in the advancement of her artform and share it with all the people of Idaho. Traditional Mexican Folk Dance is based on the cultural values of different regions and tribes of Mexico. When presenting or teaching Mexican regional dances, Norma provides the cultural context for the dances so apprentices and the public become aware of the commonalities of diverse cultures as well as their uniqueness.
