Bio: On the Coeur d’Alene Reservation the Nomee family is known for their beadwork, a tradition passed down through the generations for hundreds of years. Philomena first started to bead to be close to her family. As a child, she would sit under the table where her mother and grandmother would sew for hours, watching. She began beading in 1966, and has continued through the years, she is now recognized as a master. Traditional in all aspects, her fine work is nevertheless innovative within the Coeur d’Alene tradition. She has meticulously created fully beaded purses, jewelry, and dance outfits. Philomena feels proud of her work when she sees it on display, actively worn and used. She is willing to teach anyone who wants to learn; she encourages others in the Coeur d’Alene Tribe to learn the art so it is not lost.
