Metals Sculptor Working in metals is a challenge and a joy. The process of creating from a solid, substantial and unyielding substance and moving it into the sensation of an organic, flowing outcome, delights and intrigues me. Metals are always the basis for the sculptural work I create, though I often add hand-built stoneware, glass or mosaics to create the final effect. With the use of an oxygen/acetylene torch, plasma torch, MIG welder and much grinding equipment, I create pieces which are free-flowing and celebratory. While I`m widely known for my dancing figures created of steel, the last several years have been devoted to incorporating mixed metals, stoneware and glass into my work creating more dimension and interesting layers to the pieces. I have been intrigued by the many textures available by incorporating various metals, perforated metals, stoneware tiles and blown glass and other mixed media elements to the steel to create such dimension and texture. My focus is divided into three areas: creating large-scale public art, creating exhibition venues for my artistic peers to display their work, and creating sculptural pieces which speak to the process of growth, humanity and invention. I choose to use recycled materials 90% of the time and to keep it joyful and celebratory in theme. My intent is to convey that life is meant to be an adventure, filled with the various emotions we are gifted with. Most of my work is finished with a polyurethane coating to prevent additional rust. My pieces vary from large Public Art work, and creating sculptural, to functional furniture, to garden pieces to more intricate indoor sculptural works and wall hanging pieces.
