Performing Artist - Storyteller
Ability to work with all ages.

I love storytelling! Whether I am telling or teaching, I never cease to marvel at the impact of story. I believe storytelling is more than a performance art. It is a life skill and the foundation of true communication. Storytelling magnifies listening and verbal abilities. Storytelling nurtures writing skills and imagination. Storytelling builds understanding by melting cultural barriers and generational lines. Storytelling enhances literacy, and the study of any subject. Storytelling glorifies diversity, yet unifies as it illustrates how much we share.

TERESA CLARkWhile my residencies teach the techniques of storytelling, they also inspire. Whether the residency theme is family stories, original tales, personal stories, folk tales, fairy tales, or Native American legend the result is the same. Participants of all ages and abilities blossom and thrive as they discover their own voice and are empowered to share it.

Theater, Creative Drama, Shakespeare and Literature
Ability to work with all grade levels, needs, and abilities.

The Idaho Shakespeare Festival (ISF) is committed to providing students and educators with learning experiences that enhance a school's sense of community and collaboration as well as a particular curricular theme. We seek to serve as an adjunct to a school's academic goals and community needs. While my residencies teach the techniques of storytelling, they also inspire. Whether the residency theme is family stories, original tales, personal stories, folk tales, fairy tales, or Native American legend the result is the same. Participants of all ages and abilities blossom and thrive as they discover their own voice and are empowered to share it.

Joy Steiner Working with anywhere from one artist to multiple members of the ISF community, residency programs are created with each individual school community. ISF is excited to be a growing part of Idaho's educational atmosphere and can work with schools to develop programs from once week to large scale, multiple week adventures.

Theater is one of the last truly collaborative art forms and while ISF has "ready to go" programs in creative drama, acting, movement, theatrical design, analysis and exploring and explaining the Bard, we truly enjoy creating new and unique programs with individual schools and educators. It is our hope to help educators make links between the art of theater and curriculum that is not normally associated with that art.

After all - "All the world's a stage..." Be a player.

Performing Artist - Storytelling
Ability to work with all ages, teacher training.

I tell stories because they help us, at every age, to make sense of our lives. Old folktales carry wisdom to guide us. Foolish characters help us to see our mistakes in a humorous light. Laughter shared can bring us together, and a personal story told from the heart can reveal that although we may look different, we are very much alike underneath.

Joy Steiner I use storytelling to make writing easier. A story can help students get a strong picture in their mind's eye, and when the imagination simmers, the writing is not far away. I aim to convince students that writing is fun.

I use storytelling to encourage a desire to read. My residencies engage students in the art of storytelling, but first, they must read to find their favorite story. Many of my own stories come from books and some are my original inventions. When I tell stories, my passion for language and word pictures inspires listeners to explore the world of books themselves. My goal is to help students fall in love with literature and writing.
